Some industries depend on wearable AR devices. The current post is introducing the audience to learn how AR apps are game changers in the modern era.

In our previous post, ‘The Augmented Reality Apps Part 2’ we have seen many useful AR applications for industrial, marketing, medical, and healthcare & fitness industries. By keeping the threads continue for the Augmented Reality series, we would like to explore some more industries in the current post.

Military AR Applications

The military has adopted AR technologies earlier and extensively used in the training of pilots of the air force. It is HUD (Heads-Up Device) that provides the transparent display placed directly in front of pilot’s eye view.
Thus, pilots can get various critical information in real-world contexts such as data of altitudes, speed, horizon line, and much more without removing focus from the window screen.

It is HMD (Head-Mounted Display) unit applicable for ground troops working with military tanks, vehicles, or on-the-foot. The first use of AR application for the army is for training purpose.

The AR apps provide soldiers mapping information, topographic data along with video feeds, and movements of allied troops as well as enemies. The AR system eliminates carrying 2D maps or laptops on the chest.

It overlays everything on real-world view including navigation viewpoints, friends and foe, satellite imaginary, instructions, and much more right in the view field of individual soldier or military vehicles like tanks, boats, and submarines.

Examples of AR projects for the military:

The “Super Cockpit”

As described above, it is for pilots of the air force.

Aspen Movie Map

It helps army to get the familiarity with the environment where operations might take place.

Battlefield Augmented Reality System (BARS)

It is Super Cockpit for troops in the ground, water, air, and space (Satellites) working in highly collaborative ways.

C-130 Loadmaster Training

It is for cargo handling and rigging experts working in the air force during peace and battle time.

Music AR Applications

With the advent of mobile technologies, it is possible to use mobile devices in Augmented Reality applications. Therefore, the market is flooding with AR apps and use of AR technologies in the field of music gradually increasing in the areas of music production, music mixing, control, and visualization.

A tool developed for 3D music creation with sound mixing capacities allows Disk Jockey (DJ) to play dozens of sound samples placed anywhere in 3D space.

Oak is an AR system for mobiles use camera and collection of totems seen in real-world space. The laser detects the interactions of the user with tot4ems and plays sound accordingly.

An AR app that can use mobile devices to place layers of information and interactivity on the top of audio mixing desk- Audient.

ARmony is a software package designed to learn the various musical instruments with a little or without the help of experts. It provides live previews, lessons, and tutorials using AR technologies.

HoloLens has capabilities to play with sound with virtual objects and can help people in the music industry with AR applications.

The AR Mixer is an AR app to select the mix in between songs by simply changing the orientation of real-world objects such as a bottle or can.

The Augmented Groove is an innovative approach to the music by providing musical controllers with departing approaches from the traditional keyboards or dials.

ControllAR facilitates appropriation of rich visual feedback on control surfaces by remixing GUI and AR. It eliminates the reliance on control surfaces to yield the music.

Rouages AR system relies on gestures like the dance movements to control the music that establishes intense interactions between the artists and audience.

Reflets AR app brings augmented interactions between musicians and sound shape manipulation as a novel technique to present a musical performance by the artists where the audience can see the virtual content on the stage with the AR app.

Navigation AR Applications

People seek navigational aids in two different conditions, for external roaming, for within a premise movements.

For the external navigation, GPS and mobile connectivity signals are enough to provide an accurate location of the user.

For internal navigation, we used to rely on Wi-Fi, VLS, and Beacon like Bluetooth technologies.

The Wikitude AR app is an excellent example of external navigation application use GPS to provide turn-by-turn directions superimposed on real-world images taken in real-time with the movement of user or vehicle. It also comes with an AR map guiding users on foot or in the car with real-time updates.

Apart from navigating the users, it also furnishes the information regarding the surroundings in real-time and highly secure ways. It is because users need not take their eyes off the track/road/destination and AR objects simply overlay on the views in a non-intrusive manner.

Indoor navigation AR application is useful for

Big malls or supermarkets

The large brand store with several departments

Big museums

Large art galleries

Extensive public places such as railway stations, bus stations, and air terminals

If you offer a mobile app or wearable app with AR capabilities to the entry seekers, it definitely eases their lives and enhances the user experiences of the visitors.

Indoor apps mostly use built-in mobile connectivity signals, the Wi-Fi allocated to the premise, the VLS, radio signals, and Bluetooth (Beacon) like mid-range connectivity systems to locate the users with some desired accuracy as well as provide them updated info or content in real-time.

The Augmented Reality capacities when infused with such indoor navigation system, it brings immense innovative opportunities for retailers to run highly effective marketing campaigns with the best possible user experiences.

Spatial Immersion and Interaction AR Applications

We know that immersion more objective and provides opportunity to interact with real-world objects while presence is more subjective and can be achieved through a virtual world or simply reading the text.

The Augmented Reality has blurred the thin line between the virtual world and the real world by superimposing virtual on the real. Therefore, many inventors have applied spatial immersion technologies by allocating sensors, cameras, wearable, and the latest AR tools to provide the user highly immersive experiences even interacting with real-world objects.

The ‘Project Anywhere’ that is also dubbed as ‘Out-of-Body Experience’ and achieved big applauds from various industries including architecture for immersive walk-through experiences of building or creation, games, and many others in the row.

Conclusion:

We have gone through various categories of industries, which are likely benefiting from the Augmented Reality applications such as military, music, navigation, and spatial immersion & interaction in the current post.
In the next post ‘The Augmented Reality Apps Part 4’ we might end up the present subparts of our Augmented Reality series.
